Ayurveda, like the science of Yoga, was inspired and developed by the great masters and seers of ancient India. The origins of Ayurveda and Yoga have common roots and play a highly balancing role in spiritual education and the maintenance of physical well-being and vitality. Ayurveda is perhaps the oldest science of life, a system of diet, healing and health maintenance that is deeply spiritual in origin. Unlike traditional Western medicine, Ayurveda is not limited to the healing of disease in a superficial treatment of symptoms. Instead, it evaluates the complete body, mind and spirit of the individual. It is definitely not a “one size fits all” approach.
According to Ayurveda, medicine and diet are complementary rather than separate. The system addresses not only healing but also prevention and maintenance of the vitality needed for the human body. Ancient seers described the human body and the body of the universe as composed of prana (the life-force) which manifests in the form of earth, water, fire, air and ether. Any imbalance of theses elements in our body is experienced as illness, discomfort, or pain. To keep these elements healthy in our bodies we must consume them through breath, food, water, sunshine, exercise and sleep. Ayurveda practitioners and Yogis believe foods such as grains, fruits, vegetables, seeds, beans, herbs and roots, as vital carriers and equalizers for the energy of prana in the body. The power these foods manifest, only when they are used in the proper combinations and in complete coordination with the unique conditions of each individual.
I received Ayurveda training and certification in diet and nutrition from Hridaya School and Ashram, of Hallowell and Industry, Maine. I completed an Ayurvedic Diet and Weight Loss seminar through Joyful Belly, Asheville, North Carolina.
Ayurveda is one of my passions and I work hard to be a great role model for my peers and students. Learn, discuss and practice is how I teach Ayurveda. I am patient, kind and understanding with all of my clients and students. In a private setting with an individual client, I meet that person where they are with their health and diet issues at that moment. I have personal experience with Ayurveda and my own health issues. I honestly know how important it is to sort out each issue and form a plan for healing around what is important for that client.
